Built with unikernel-based architecture, Prisma Postgres is designed to handle extremely fast provisioning to give your users a production-ready Postgres instance with minimal friction, thereby allowing AI coding agents to deliver the ultimate database setup experience to their users.

Streamlined DX when building DB-powered applications with Prisma Postgres

Aided by Prisma Postgres, we envision the developer experience for anyone building applications with the help of an agent to be along the following lines.

When a user first engages with an AI agent to build an application, they should be able to fully develop and deploy their first application without having to manually integrate with third party services. When the user has had this initial aha-moment, they should be able to take ownership of any resources from external services that the AI agent has configured for them. For Prisma Postgres, it will work like this:

1. The user talks to the AI agent and builds an application that is powered by Prisma's data toolkit (ORM, database, connection pool, global cache and real-time event).
2. The AI agent automatically connects to the Prisma API to provision an unclaimed Prisma Postgres instance (running on the generous free tier)—no user interaction or authentication required!
3. An unclaimed DB remains available up to one year (or until claimed). And, because Prisma Postgres uses unique unikernel technology under the hood, there are no cold start issues for dormant DBs. Whether the user returns after several days, or even months, their dormant database starts up in milliseconds!
4. Claiming is easy as clicking a link the user will receive during the initial setup. When the user initiates the claim process, they need to authenticate with Prisma Data Platform, and the database is transferred to their account.

As you may have imagined, these databases are not only limited to AI agents, the possibilities and applications are endless!
